Bastions of Saint Remy
Built at the end of the 19th Century with the intention to recreate a panoramic lookout overlooking the old Aragon walls, bastions Saint Remy unites the already present rocks of Zecca, Santa Caterina and Sperone, presented on the south side of the Gulf, succeeding to unite it into a unique crossing, the Castle area with the adjacent zones of Villanova and Marina.
The walk gives its appellation to Felice Pallavicino, Baron of Saint Remy, decreed viceroy Piemontese in 1720 to coincide with the attachment of the Sardinian kingdom namesake, governed at that time by the Savoia dynasty.
The Bastion Saint Remy architecture offers a particular neo-classic decoration, using columns of Corinthian capital style which defined an imposing triumphal arch and an ample double flight of staircases with which it is possible to reach the Piazza della Costituzione.
The Terrace, renamed Umberto I, which stands out on the ancient Bastion of Sperone and the covered path, today completely restored, is dated 1896, but the construction in its entirety was finished in 1901
